Roseodiscus aff. formosus
Gernot Friebes, 22-08-2021 10:52
Hi,

I collected this discomycete at approx. 2400 m a.s.l. and I think it has strong similarities with this Roseodiscus aff. formosus: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/0B5SeyOEkxxZhXzZkNXRMSDFIVzA?resourcekey=0-XZegZviwmZP_xJiG2vNF5g

Spores measure about 10–13 x 3–3.5 µm, croziers are present, the asci are IKI bb.

Just wanted to share this interesting collection.

Best wishes,
Gernot

Re : Roseodiscus aff. formosus
Thank you, Dirk.
Yes, Zotto mentioned in this forum that Enrique's collection (with asci IKI bb) differed in the ITS compared to typical R. formosus, so maybe we are dealing with an undescribed species here.

Best wishes,
Gernot

Re : Roseodiscus aff. formosus
I agree. Is the moss also Ceratodon? It seems so.

Your spore measurements are not really concordant with the pics, either the spores are longer or narrower. Is there a scale to check?

Re : Roseodiscus aff. formosus
Thank you for the link, Enrique!

The moss has been confirmed as Ceratodon by a colleague who is a bryologist (a Bryum was also very close).

It is well possible that I did not cover the full spore size range since I only measured a few spores. Unfortunately I do not have a scale since I used someone else's microscope.

Best wishes,
Gernot

Re : Roseodiscus aff. formosus
thanks Gernot. I assume this sample is from the Alps?

Re : Roseodiscus aff. formosus
Yes, from Vorarlberg (Kreuzjoch, also called Krüzjoch).
