Small asco on the inner surface of Pinus radiata wood
Enrique Rubio, 03-01-2007 21:11
Enrique RubioDear friends, have you any suggestions for that small asco (0.5-1 mm), convex, sesile, pruinose all over and redenning with the age?
Asci IKI (¿), with croziers, 32-45 x 6-8, 8- spored. Spores eliptic-fusiform, gralm. two-guttulate, 6.5-8 x 3. Ectal excipulum of claviform hyphae sligthly verrucosae; ental excipulum of prysmatic text.
Some paraphyses looks blackish or grayish in IKI?
Thank you very much to all and happy new year.

Might it be Cystopezizella venceslai (Velen.) Svrcek = Calycina venceslai (Velen.) Raitv.?
Pourrait-il être Cystopezizella venceslai (Velen.) Svrcek = Calycina venceslai (Velen.) Raitv.?

Dear Emrique
The specimen reminds me of my finds of "Hymenoscyphus" resinae-piceae Svrcek (as Calycina resinae-piceae on DVD), but the spores are larger there (8-10.5 x 3-3.5 µm) and the hairs and paraphyses dustinctly granulate at their tips. These finds might belong in Ciliolarina. Enrique, what resolution do your photos have? I feel that the hairs on your upper left photo are actually warted. Could you send me the plate in double (1300 x 1400 Pixel) or even higher resolution than available in Ascofrance?

C. venceslai Svrcek was considered a synonym of Cystopezizella sanguinea (Velen.) Svrcek by Svrcek (1985: 175). What I have under the name "Calycina sanguinea aff." on my DVD has heteropolar (paramecioid) spores without large oil drops, and rather long-stalked apothecia.
