How old ist this find that you did not study it fresh?
I only know Hymenoscyphus geogenus with these characters. I found it mostly on Quercus but rarely on other angiosperm trees (Fagus, Betula, ...).
Usually there is a pale blue apical ring. Did you use MLZ? That might prohibit the reaction.

Indeed, I used Melzer and the reaction was very, very weak, so I added J- but it was very weakly J+.

Good! If you wish you can send me the collection data. I once studied the type of the synonym Helotium longisporum Schweers, maybe I will publish at some time on this species.
