Geoglossum
Malcolm Greaves, 01-10-2017 23:42
Malcolm GreavesCan someone help identify this group of Geoglossum.
They were up to 8 cm tall (most c4) both the head and stem were viscid.
The spores all look to be dark, 7 septate and 60 -85 µ long.
The paraphyses are mostley straight multiseptate with swollen elements at the top.
This led me to G uliginosum. This species is supposed to be found in sphagnum but mine was in mossy soil at the edge of a woodland path.
Is there something else it could be?
Thanks
Mal

Re : Geoglossum
I think it is Geoglossum cookeanum, close related to G. uliginosum.
Added 2 photos of the typical abundantly present paraphyses of G. uliginosum with constrictions (mostly) every second or third septum and the repetitive pyriform cells.
Good night

Re : Geoglossum
Thanks Luc and Thomas, I was fooled by the slightly sticky stem so was in a different part of the Key I was using.
Spores are almost all between 65 & 80 so I think G simile (80-110) less likely.
