Yellow asco on Tilia wood
Enrique Rubio,

Yesterday I have collected on Tilia wood at 800 m of altitude these small ascomata up to 0.45 mm in diam. with IKI bb asci, croziers (+), some of them with basal globule and + or - lanceolate paraphyses with small yellowish Vb's. Ectal excipulum of an elongate textura prismatica without gelified tissues.
Hairs in fascicles very difficult to dissociate, + or - yellowish, multiseptate with end cell straight to slightly uncinate, KOH negative.
Maybe a Psilocistella species? because I think it's not an Hamatocanthoscypha as H. uncipila.
What's your opinion?
Many thanks again
Enrique

Re : Yellow asco on Tilia wood
Great! It is very similar to Psilachnum rubrotinctum, which I would place in Cistella, but the spores are too short, and the substrate woody.
Seppo Huhtinen once sent me photos of one growing on wood of Populus but mainly on a resupinate polypore. But the spores are a bit larger than yours (5-8 x 2 ?) , though ?similar.
I attach images (hairs are probably in KOH).
Please check NH4OH for a purplish reaction of the yellow VBs.
Zotto

Re : Yellow asco on Tilia wood
Fine! I don't know such reaction in Psilachnum (with smooth, straight hairs). But also Cistella does not seem to have it. A matter for molecular people.

Re : Yellow asco on Tilia wood
Michel
