Pyreno on hare dung
Juuso Äikäs, 07-08-2023 19:32
These little black pyrenos were growing on hare droppings in an open, grassy area.

The asci are 8-spored, IKI negative. The spores have a gelatinous sheath and measure 27.0 - 31 × 17 - 19.5 µm.

Anybody familiar with this?

Re : Pyreno on hare dung
Hi Juuso
Check it in the genus Sordaria.

Re : Pyreno on hare dung
Thanks Enrique, I checked Finnish findings of Sordaria, and the species S. superba seems to fit in terms of substrate and microscopy. The spores ought to get darker with age.

Yes. They are very immature yet.
