Bonjour,
récolte sur épi de maïs pourrissant en milieu humide (corn cob rotting in a humid environment), apothécies 7 mm maxi, chair très élastique, spores 5,5-8, x 3-3,3 µm.
J'ai une idée, mais...

Re : Ombrophila
Bonjour Patrice!
I am sorry but you must try a section. 7 mm! But are the apos very gelatinous?
Presence of gel in medulla and on excipulum, also crystals are required to know.

Re : Ombrophila
The underside is very gelatinous and sticky. Here are four photos. Thanks in advance Zotto if I have to try to see something else, it is not easy with this texture.

Re : Ombrophila
I see there are many crystals. But the medullary texture is rather compact. I think there must be a larger-celled ectal exipulum. Ombrophila violacea would have larger spores and a much more gelatinous medulla with very narrow hyphae and abundant gel between. Such strongly jelly medulla is typical of many Ombrophilas.
I did not test my key so far.

Re : Ombrophila
Please, which liquid is best to see the medullary texture ?

Re : Ombrophila
Important is that the section works. With such jelly fungi like O. violacea it is almost impossible to make a section.
Water is generally enough. If you don't know if there is gel or not you can try to stain the gel with Cresyl Blue.

Re : Ombrophila
Here are some new photos, not sure if they are as expected. New observation of ejected spores, they measure 5,3-6,5 x 2,7-3,3 µm.

Re : Ombrophila
The medulla looks non-gelatinized to me.
I am a bit unsure if it could be Ascocoryne lilacina?

Re : Ombrophila
Are there crystals in A. lilacina ? In addition my spores are much smaller. And the paraphyses that I observe are empty ...

Re : Ombrophila
You are right, and your last spore measures were quite small.

Re : Ombrophila
From spore size I also imagined this. But I know that species with much smaller LBs in the spores. But look at my folder janthina aff., angiosperm.

OK, I see. Thanks for all.

Re : Ombrophila
I am still uncertain how the medulla looks in your fungus. In those of the folder it is composed of very narrow hyphae embedded in much gel. Iff broad cells belong to the ectal excipulum, this could really be the same.

Re : Ombrophila
No doubt, broad cells belong to the ectal excipulum, easy to see in this part of the ascomycete. Here are new photos of other parts...

Re : Ombrophila
Yes, this is probably medulla, although in Ombrophila often also a gel layer outside of the ect exc occurs.

Ok thank you. To save this folder under the same name as you, what name do you use please ?
