Ombrophila type on soil

Hi All,

During July this summer I found a turbinate Asco looking macroscopically rather like Neobulgaria pura, however, it was growing on calcareous soil and woody debris rather than wood. It was in broad leaved woodland under Acer, Fagus etc. The apothecia were 7-9mm and brownish-pink to brownish-orange with a slightly paler and furfuraceous excipulum.

The smooth ellipsoid spores were 20-23x10.5-12 and asci 300-350x7-8 so seemingly much too big for the inoperculate species. Paraphyses were swollen to 7-13. Empty or old asci gave slight diffuse blueing in Melzer's. It seems close to Pseudombropila but I am aware that many of these grow on dung. Again, I would welcome any thoughts.

Best wishes,

Charles.

Re : Ombrophila type on soil
This is operculate, perhaps something like Aleurina?

Hi Zotto,

Many thanks for the suggestion. Another new genus to me. Will have to look it up!

Best wishes,

Charles.
