Macrodiplodiopsis desmazieresii? on Platanus
Ethan Crenson, 20-03-2017 18:51
Can anyone help me with this? In Central Park NYC, on a branch of Platanus × acerifolia. Low pustules pushing through the bark (the second photo shows a horizontal cut through the bark). Some of the pustules look as though they may have an ostiole or a short "beak".

Spores (Conidiospores) are brown, 3-septate, ovate. 41-47um by 15.5-18um. No asci seen.

I am assuming this is an anamorph. This seems to resemble the collection posted in forum message 28111 (apologies, I don't know how to link to another forum post without getting an error) ... but I am uncertain whether there was a consensus that that collection was Macrodiplodiopsis desmazieresii or if it matches mine.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Hi Ethan,

I think that your collection meets the description in Crous et al. (2015: 178 + fig. 10) and is indeed Macrodiplodiopsis desmazieresii.

Thanks for the information.  I am reading the relevant parts of Crous et. al. right now...
