Lichenicolous coelomycete
Gernot Friebes, 21-01-2026 16:32
Hi,

I need your help with some black dots on a lichen thallus. I will refrain from suggesting a host ID since I'm not an expert lichenologist (far from it), but maybe you can recognise it from the photos. Found on a branch of a deciduous tree. The conidia are approximately 5.6-6.7 x 1.2-1.6 µm in size.

Best wishes,
Gernot

Re : Lichenicolous coelomycete
Looks like conidiomata of Physcia aipolia, no lichenicolous fungus

Re : Lichenicolous coelomycete
Thank you, Franz. I did not consider that option.

Best wishes,

Re : Lichenicolous coelomycete
I agree with Franz: these are almost surely pycnidia from the lichen, not a lichenicolous fungus.
