The ITS region fully coincides with an unpublished sequence of "Ionomidotis" olivascens by K, Pärtel (KL325). As long as there is no sequence from the type, we may safely say I. olivascens. If there are morphological differences to Ameghiniella I cannot say.

KL325 is CUP MJ1032 from Jamaica fide Kadri and was acknowledged by Zhuang. I tend to place this species in Ameghiniella which has lkewise ionomidotic apothecia.

i'm trying to reconcile the familial placement of Midotis in Helvellaceae (and Pezizales) as compared to the many, many BLAST results -- not to mention your own phylogram -- that all indicate placement of this collection in the Cordieritidaceae (and Helotiales). perhaps you can help make sense of this apparent conundrum, or alleviate my confusion.

The type of Midotis is M. lingua, and the genus is a synonym of Wynnella (Helvellaceae). Midotis olivacea has been misplaced in Midotis by Seaver 1951, while in 1926 it was placed in Ionomidotis, which was a better genus.

Thank you, Zotto.  We have decided to call this Ionomidotis olivascens on both iNat and in our MCMS database for the National Park Service.
