Dear all
I want to ask you if you have any recent, well-preserved collection of "Sclerotinia" capillipes. My paper on this species is almost finished, but its molecular part is based on only one ITS sequence of a 4-spored collection. Either a second sequence from a 4-spored find would be welcome, or better a sequence from an 8-spored specimen. May-June is the best season for it, so whe you are in an alder swamp please have a look on rotten Alnus leaves. Although 4- and 8-spored apothecia may occur simultaneously at the same place, there is still unclear if they are the same species.
In case of success, the apothecia must be checked for their spore number before they can be sequenced.
Thanks
Zotto

Re : S. capillipes
Hi Zotto,
Could you post a picture of this species? We have lots of alder wetlands where I live and I could see if it's here.

Re : S. capillipes
Quite characteristic is the somewhat unshaped, angular or banana-like sclerotium. Other species on alder leaves have only a stroma but no sclerotium. The sclerotium is still attached to the rotten leaf, but the leaf may be so fragmentated that the host is +/- unrecognizable.
