On Yucca filamentosa - conidia like Robillarda, but aseptate
Ethan Crenson, 08-05-2025 18:32
Hello all,

I was looking at leaves of Yucca from a NYC coastal park recently and encountered conidiospores that looked interesting to me.  They are associated with pycnidia which form on the leaves, but it is likely that the pycnidia are a separate anamorphic taxon with brown conidia.

Hyaline conidiospores with a lot of oil content. Usually five or more hair like projections extending from one end of the conidia.  35-50 x 10.8-12.1µm.  They bear a resemblance to Robillarda species, but that genus has 1-septate conidia, I think.  Pestaloziella spp. are also similar, but have hair-like projections that branch, while my collection has individual hair-like projections.

Can anyone recommend a genus?  Thanks in advance.

Ethan

Hello Angel.  Thank you for your quick reply!  I was also considering Kellermania, but I was under the impression that the conidia had a single appendage.

Here are the figures from Nag Raj 1993 (attached), single celled conidia with multiple appendages...

Thank you, Martin for the image.
In Nag Raj's description, it is mentioned that the conidium bears minute marginal frills, as it seems to be visible in your image 2.
Best wishes.Angel

Kellermania yuccifolia it is!  Thank you both!

I see that Index Fungorum has Alpakesa yuccifolia as the current name. Has that name gained acceptance?
