Chaetosphaeria? black pyreno with part spores
Ethan Crenson, 22-12-2021 22:43
Hello all,

I'd love some help with this black carbonaceous pyrenomycete which I found this weekend in New York City.  It was found on decorticated hardwood on the ground. The fruiting bodies are uni-peritheciate partly embedded in the wood and around 0.5mm in diameter.

Asci appear very thick walled and in IKI have a darkened ring-like structure at the tip.

Spores are 1-septate, brown and frequently break into two part spores at the cell division.  They measure 18-20.5 x 4.5-5µm.  The part spores measuring about half that.

Can anyone identify this pyreno?

Thanks in advance,

Ethan
