On Cytisus scoparius -> Karstenula shepherdiae
William de Jong, 03-02-2021 08:30
Hi,

Yesterday I found this on Cytisus scoparius (Broom). At first I thought that this could be Cucurbitaria spartii or Pleospora cytisi. Those are the muriform-spored ascomycetes on Cytisus according to the Microfungi on Land Plants (Ellis&Ellis). But the spore size is clearly too small compared to these species. It is 14,5-19,5 x 7,5-9,5 µm; average: 16,2 x 8,6 µm (n=10).
Spores are yellow to brown. Unfortunately, the brown spores deformed easily after light tapping on the slide. Ascus with 7 or 8 spores. Does any of you have a suggestion?

Kind regards, William
