Let's start with the ecology: Softwood/hardwood - can you confirm? Ascus base needs to be checked also. And then a MLZ mount of the excipular cells. ...could be, or could be something totally else :-)

Ah, of course, sloppy me.
H. britannica is supposed to have atleast some septate spores (10-20 %). Also there should be some spores clearly over 10 um in length if it was britannica. And take a careful look at the hairs: How resistent hair resin is in MLZ, does it dissolve immediately or is it still there. They both have crozier, check that also. It's not always easy, you could try congo red just to check the ascus base.

H. aureliella & conifer. Just as in maybe 98% of the cases.
Never seen H. britannica here in Scandinavia. Stip Helleman has collected H. britannica and he considered it as very rear and not a boreal species. But it is definately a good species (sequences & morphology). Keep your eyes open :-).
