Allophylaria zenobia on Quercus robur leafs
Johan Myhrer, 18-10-2018 23:23
Have been struggeling with these for a while, found few very dry specimens a couple of weeks ago on decomposed Quercus robur leafs (central Sweden), today I found some more and finally I got a name on them, I think? Allophylaria zenobia is not known from Sweden so I'm looking for a description. Anyone have Svrcek's revision from 1984?

Asci: ~100x12µm

Spores: ~16x5µm

Ascus apex IKI+ red.

Best wishes from Johan Myhrer!

Hello,

you meant this source? Svrcek (1984) [1985]: A taxonomic revision of inoperculate discomycetes described by J. Velenovsky in the genus Helotium, preserved in National Museum, Prague. Acta Mus. Nat. Pragae, Ser. B., Hist. Nat. 40 (3-4): 129-216.

All issues of Acta mus. nat. Pragae were online not so long ago but now there's new version of the museum website and I didn't find it there anymore. You can download it from my googledisk (ca 15 MB): https://drive.google.com/open?id=166ZURiWcLX61m2uiMH6rcFaYIsyD9Rmn

Re : Allophylaria zenobia on Quercus robur leafs
Dear Johan
I agree, but I am in strong doubt about the name Conchatium zenobiae. Svrcek's redescription is clearly not an Allophylaria but rather a Hymenoscyphus, perhaps H. syringaecolor, although the spores are not constricted and the asci inamyloid.

So I suggest to use the name A. nervicola. There is some variation in spore size so that I made two folders, one 12-15 and one 14-18 µm. The type of A. nervicola belongs more to the 12-15 range. Velenovsky measured 12-16 but his measurements are often doubtful.

Did you measure more spores to get a range? I would also like to add the collection date and site to your sample.

Re : Allophylaria zenobia on Quercus robur leafs
Goodmorning!

I actually considered nervicola early and it feels alot more "comfortable". So I happily agree :-)

Measured 10+ spores.

If you also need coordinates, I have them att home. Currently at work.

Best wishes from Johan Myhrer!

Thanks, I overlooked the indirectly mentioned date, but with yesterday you obviously meant the 19.Oct. not 17. Yes, please also coordinates.

Thanks, so it is the more frequent large-spored variant.

Re : Allophylaria zenobia on Quercus robur leafs
Thanks to you Zotto! :-)

Nervicola is not known in Sweden previously, atleast according to Checklist of the non-lichenized ascomycetes of Sweden (Eriksson 2014) and Dyntaxa (Swedish taxonomic database).
