Dear forum,

On hard wood I found this pyrenomycete with anamorph (second picture).
At first thought of an Amphisphaeria-species but those have coloured spores as far as I know.
Perithecia partly immersed, with short necks as small dots on the upper part; spores two- sometimes three-celled, hyaline, smooth, 17.5 - 23; asci eight-spored, uni-/biseriate, about 125 - 135, ascus-tip not reacting in J.

could the substrate be Tilia? Your fungus reminds me of Hercospora tiliae.

Hi Gernot,

I enclose a picture of the bark, with a typical structure, perhaps you recognize it ...
I don't really know if it was on Tilia.
In water the spores measured up tot 23 microm. Does this fit within the description, Dennis mentions spores 15-18 ?

Hi Aafke,

I think the second photo in your initial post looks quite similar to Tilia (notice the relatively thick bast).

Here Enrique Rubio shows a collection of H. tiliae with spores up to 25.8 µm in length so I don't think the spore size of your collection is a concern:  https://www.asturnatura.com/fotografia/setas-hongos/hercospora-tiliae-pers-tul-c-tul-2/12658.html

So Hercospora tiliae has a different, non-septate anamorph.
Does this also mean that the name Hercospora tiliae is uncertain for this find ?

Hi Aafke,
the finding is already sure. The spores of the anamorphes are right different. The species is quite frequent here.
