Pyreno on Corylus
Per Vetlesen, 19-09-2016 10:53
Hi
It was found in November last year in Stange Norway on a decorticated dead standing stem of Corylus avellana.
Asci: ca. 100 x 7 µm
Spores (partspore?) rehydrated: (9.9) 10.5 - 12.6 (12.8) × (4.7) 4.8 - 5.4 (6.1) µm; Q = (1.9) 2 - 2.4 (2.7) ; N = 28; Me = 11.5 × 5.2 µm ; Qe = 2.2
Thanks in advance for any help.

Re : Pyreno on Corylus
Hi Per,
it sounds like a Synaptospora.
Cheers,

Jacques

Hi Jacques
Yes, I think it must be a Synaptospora! This genus consist of only 4 species and it may be S. petrakii. I have not been able to find pictures and description of it; if anybody has it I would be grateful to get it.
Thank you very much for help.
Greetings

Re : Pyreno on Corylus
three papers dealing with Synaptospora species are available on Sydowia website.
Cain 1957, Huhndorf et al 1999 and Réblova 2002.
S. petrakii was described by Cain.
Cheers,
Jacques

Re : Pyreno on Corylus
Hi Jacques
Thank you, I found these papers and these: Synaptospora setosa Huhndorf, F.A. Fern. & Cand., a rare Sordariomycete, Bernard DECLERCQ, 2011 and Helminthosphaeriaceae key in Miller et al. 2014.
I have studied these papers, but it do not fit the description of any of the 4 (5) Synaptospora species. The only one with 1-septate spores is S. olandica, but it is smaller and has different spores and smaller asci.
Greetings
Per
