Chaetosphaeria With Equal Sized Part Spores
Peter Thompson, 02-11-2015 15:25
Hello Everyone,

I have found fruit bodies of what appears to be a Chaetosphaeria on decorticated wood under Quercus and Betula.

The fruit bodies are surrounded by erect, unbranched conidiophores, presumably from the associated conidial state. Resembling a hyphomycete of the genus Chloridium perhaps.

The spores are clearly dividing into two equal sized part spores at the septum, even in the ascus. They exceed the sizes of the part spores of C. preussii and C. vermicularioides. Although correct for spore size, my collection is not of C. callimorpha, as the spores of this species do not easily separate at the septum.

I am wondering if a suitable identification for this collection would be Chaetosphaeria lentomita, having used the Reblova 2000 key. I would be grateful to anyone who can help with this.

A photo of the fruit bodies and a sketch of the microscopy are attached.

Thank you,
With Best Wishes,
Peter.
