Hello all, These were found on rabbit dung (Oryctolagus cuniculus) last week - possibly a Sordaria for the first and Hypocopra brefeldii for the second, or do the images show two stages of the same species?
1. Sordaria? Pseudothecia prominent, spores light to dark brown, 20-24 x 12.5-15 µm, the germ slit full length of spore. (First two photographs)
2. Hypocopra brefeldii? Pseudothecia immersed, spores dark brown, 24-27 x 12.5-14 µm, the germ slit not extending full length of spore
With regards,
Jenny

                Hello Jenny.
For the first, it is probably a Coniochaeta for the second probably also a Hypocopra, but it lacks many details to be able to determine the (color stroma, number of perithecia, clypeus or not, color of the apical apparatus asci, for example). This is a difficult kind.
Michel.

Re : On rabbit dung (Oryctolagus cuniculus)
I think this is Podosordaria tulasnei and Hypocopra, Jenny. But more can not, without the missing information to say Hypocopra.
Peter

Re : On rabbit dung (Oryctolagus cuniculus)
Thank you Peter and Michel - and I have just heard from a friend that he recorded Podosordaria tulasnei from the same area last month.
My apologies for the lack of information provided but I still have the Hypocopra and will get some Congo Blue etc in the hope of being able to provide better details next time.
With regards,
Jenny
