Hi,
it more looks like a member of Boliniaceae than of Xylariaceae. I think it is Camarops sp., but I do not know the species.

björn

Re : Hypoxylon ? from Panama.
Hi Eduardo,
very interesting find but too poor information to identify it. I think it is a peltate Hypoxylon, maybe H. nicaraguense or something close.
You have to record the KOH reaction of a portion of stromatal surface, make more accurate measurements of ascospores, record the length of their germ slit and the dehiscence of the perispore in 10% KOH.
If I am asking too much let it dry and send it to me, half a stroma will be enough.
Cheers

Eduardo: Junto con esa especie de Hypoxylon hay una Camillea parecida a C. billabiata.

Re : Hypoxylon ? from Panama.
Hola Eduardo,
it's a long way from Panama but I eventually received your specimens this morning...
This fungus is in very good condition and fits well H. polyporum (Starb.) Ju & Rogers based on its pale violet pigments in KOH and yellow brown ascospores with short germ slit and perispore indehiscent in KOH.
The other Hypoxylon is almost entirely immature but I managed to find some ascospores. They are typical of H. tortisporum Ju & Rogers, as is the olivaceous KOH reaction.
The last one on palm is Seynesia erumpens (Berk. & Curtis) Petr., a really distinctive taxon I had never seen before.
Gracias,
Jacques
