Brown cup ID help?
Byrain, 12-03-2013 00:27
Can anyone ID this brown cup I found in Davis, California on 11/30/12?

Pictures, microscopy & more information can be found at Mushroom Observer here - http://mushroomobserver.org/130108?q=17m6z?

I tried to upload the images here too, but they're too large...

Re : Brown cup ID help?
Hi dirk, thanks for the suggestion!  I'm not sure where I can find a good complete description of Peziza vesiculosa, but I understand it prefers a manure, straw, or compost based substrate?  This was found on wood chips.

Re : Brown cup ID help?
hi again, woodchips are not an unusual substrate for vesiculosa. in my view the substrates in peziza-keys are often over-interpreted.
the species of the varia-group (if its not one taxon ...) have much smaller spores and a very fine ornamentation!
