A Phillipsia like specimen
Esquivel-Rios Eduardo, 19-10-2012 03:23
Hi Everyone.

I recently found this discomicete,  like Phillipsia, sessile apothecium, almost flat, with a short foot in the center, 4 to 5 cm. Diameter, asci 350-400 x 12-15 microns, ascospores 24-30 x 9-11 microns, oval, hyaline, without streaks, upper apothecium is pinkish-red, but the bottom is black. No match any kind of Phillipsia reported. Please someone help in identification.

Hi Eduardo,
in my opinion this is a Sarcosomatacea near Galiella...
Or a Chorioactidacea but it's not into the 4 known genera.
Have you a fragment for me ?
Best

Re : A Phillipsia like specimen
Hi Eduardo,
yes it's definitely a species close to Galiella spongiosa! ;)

Phillipsia is a Sarcoscyphacea and it shows other features! That's why it didn't match! :D

It's important to understand better the exact spores markings!

Best

Matte

Re : A Phillipsia like specimen

Yes, my microscope is not very good to see the surface of the ascospores. Send me your mailing address. I'm drying the specimen to send it.
