Hypoxylon
Eduardo Benguría, 20-07-2012 16:25
Buenas tardes

Saludos,
Eduardo

Re : Hypoxylon
Hola Eduardo,
I agree with you it is not H. carneum and the shape of ascospores is most unusual. Many undescribed species of Hypoxylon occur in Canary islands and yours seems to be a good candidate. Can you send me a part of your collection, gently dried (not on a dryer) and wrapped in paper?
Thanks,
Jacques

Re : Hypoxylon
Hola Eduardo,
I eventually checked your Hypoxylon, sorry for the long delay. I am stil waiting for HPLC and cultural data but based on morphology everything fits well H. carneum.
I did not observe those rhomboid ascospores you mentionned, maybe they were tightly packed in an ascus and not well rehydrated, which may sometimes account  for such angular shapes. Take this as a prelimnary result, I will keep you informed when I have more data.
Cheers,
Jacques

Re : Hypoxylon
Hola Jacques:

Re : Hypoxylon
Hi Felipe,
the thinly effused stroma is indeed unusual and may remind of Whalleya but it does contain pale yellowish granules beneath surface, which sets it apart from both Whalleya and Jumillera.
Hope futher data will become available soon.

Re : Hypoxylon
Hola Eduardo,
thanks for being so patient! I eventually received from Marc Stadler the HPLC results of your Hypoxylon sample, the profile fits perfectly H. carneum with presence carneic acids A and B.
I send you the analysis report in private.
Cheers,
Jacques
