Hello,
yesterday evening while looking for those yellow Hymenoscyphus, I stumbled upon more trouble:

Re:brown on Lycopodium
These are 2-5 mm wide and 2-3 mm high.
Spores are about 12-15x6-7 with droplets and asci about 120-160x 7-10, IKI+.
Paraphyses are septate, 2-4 micrometers wide and can branch.

Re:brown on Lycopodium
Hello again,

I think I heard or read of a presentation of fungi on Lycopodium (or clubmosses) in Nordic countries.
Does someone remember such and its name and where puplished? It could help me now, when Lycopodium is fascinating me this much :)

Curiously: Marja

This paper is:
Holm L. & Holm K. 1981. Ascomycetes on Nordic Lycopods. Karstenia, 21: 57-72.

Thanks.

Luckily I have obtained all Karstenias with ascomycetes studies, so I've got that allready.
My memory is really poor, when I didn't remember it ;)

Hi Marja
Do you have a photo showing asci reaction in IKI?
It reminds me to Rutstroemia genus, but other features must be confirmed.
Cheers,
Raúl.

Re:brown on Lycopodium
Hello,
sorry I have none. I tried with a new preparate from the drying specimen, but couldn't get a clear view.
Once again I remembered, why I don't like dry specimens. They are really hard to handle...

But the fungi was gelatinose. Heres a photo of the cells in water:

Rutstroemia may be a good possibility :)

Re:brown on Lycopodium
Hi there

if you do get a name I would be interested to know since the programme (MycoKey) that I coauthor with Jens H. Petersen has no discomycete of this nature on Lycopodium. Also the photograph(s) would be welcome for inclusion :)

cheers

Thomas

Re:brown on Lycopodium
Hi Thomas,

I'll propably get a species for this, but it will take some time. If no other way then I'll send this to Mr Huhtinen (he's on holidays now). I took some more photos, but I'm not very proud of them.

I went to the place, where I found these, but couldn't find more, because the weather was too dry.

Anyway, I'll send the information and photo to you, when I know more. Would you plese send me a e-mail for reminder and destination : marjamaalta@luukku.com.

Greetings: Marja
