could you please help me with this Pleosporales which I were not able to determine. It grew on a branch of Salix, the ascomata are opening slit-like and slightly immersed. The spores have a thick gel sheath as long as they are hyaline, when they are mature the sheath is gone and the spores are slightly brownish. They have 4-9 septa and are (32)38-51 x (9)9,5-10, the asci are bitunicate and 8-spored.

your fungus ressembles to Lophiostoma massarioides (Sacc.) Holm., although Holm does not speak about ascospore with a sheath.

It would be a good idea to see all the descriptions around massarioides, appendiculatum, appendiculatum var littorale and why not alpigenum. Which one has sheath ? which one never has a sheath ? ... Material lacks and your recolt is an important recolt you does keep very carefully.

you are great, thank you very much! The description fits quite well and at least they mention that Saccardo reported a sheath, even though Holm & Holm didn't see one. In my collection I could observe a sheath in some ascomata while others didn't have one or very few. I think that a collection with mainly older, mature spores could lack a sheath and maybe it disappears in dead material.
Anyway a very nice find and I'm happy with the outcome!
