Venturioscypha/Venturiocistella
Karl Soler Kinnerbäck, 21-05-2024 17:48
Hi all,

Could this be Venturioscypha or Venturiocistella? Found on pinus branch in Örebro, central Sweden, 2024-05-09.

Spores hyaline, aseptate, 10-13 x 2-3, at least a few with visible appendages

Asci ~30 x 8-9, IKI-

Hairs up to 100 x 4, I find it hard to distinguish different types.

I only have a few specimens but if more info/pictures are required for determination I will go back.

Best regards
Karl

To me this looks much like Venturioscypha nigropila, although I never saw the dots on the hirs so distinct. You do not have the fungus fresh? Asci and spores n water it would be much easier to comment.

Hi Zotto!

The pictures were taken the same day as the collection. Here are some additional photos of asci in water from the fresh material.

The first pic is much better, I see the oil drops in the spores as I know them from this species. You need prepare cautiously, no pressure! Fungal cells are very sensitive.

Re : Venturioscypha/Venturiocistella
Ok I will keep that in mind. Should I make another, better prep or do you feel that this is enough to confirm Venturioscypha nigropila?

Re : Venturioscypha/Venturiocistella
I think it is enough. The wart-like structures I really wonder why thy are so distinct. These pics were with il immersion and in water?

Re : Venturioscypha/Venturiocistella
