Discina ??
Zuidland Peter, 12-11-2022 06:23
Hi all,

Can I get help with the ID of what looks like Discina ancilis to me. With moss on eucalyptus bark in SE Victoria, Australia
Spores have conical ornaments on the apices and warts that merge into ridges, very few have guttules but most have a central clear area (?nucleus). Sizes without apical ornaments are 26.9-29.7 x 10-12.1um, conical ornaments are 4.4-10.6um
Paraphyces are filiform with a slight swelling at the apices
Asci are Lugol's positive and look like they are from crosiers

Any feed back much appreciated
Peter

Re : Discina ??
Hello Peter, with IKI-positive asci it cannot be a Discina, but a Peziza sensu lato - and with this apicular ornament it is a Peziza of the apiculata-group. As I just looked up, it is now a new genus called Phaeopezia. And apiculata itself (what it is likely not) has once be called Discina apiculata. Perhaps somebody else can provide a species name, but for me Australia is very far.
Yours, Lothar

All the features point to Phaeopezia apiculata
