Do you have any suggestions for these blackish, gregarious sporodochia 1-2 mm in diameter by 1.2 mm in height growing on Populus bark?
Many thanks in advance

Thank you Piotr
On wood? I don't know of any rust fungi on Populus wood, only on the leaves.

And besides, the tissue of the fruitbodys is tough.

Re : On Populus bark
It's possible that the fruit bodies are erumpent "coelomycetes" rather than sporodochia; I wondered whether this might be an anamorph of Melanconiella (see Voglmayr et al., DOI 10.1007/s13225-012-0175-8). But there doesn't seem to be a described species on Populus that could be a candidate.

Re : On Populus bark
Yes, Paul, you may be right in what you say and in fact I had thought, as you, in a possible coelomycete, asexual form of some Melanconis or similar genus in Diaporthales. But I have not found anything similar in the papers of Jaklitsch and Volgmayr.
Thank you again.
Thank you again.

Hi Enrique,
I was about to give you the same idea (anamorph of Melanconiellaceae/Melanconidaceae), with one question : are you sure of Populus ?

Re : On Populus bark
I think so, Alain. Populus is the better idea for the host.
