I once studied the spore ontogeny in M. chateri/Aleuria cornubiensis and A. aurantia in comparison, see the two files in my folders:
Aleuria cornubiensis, LB ontogeny.JPG - multiguttulate
Aleuria aurantia, LB ontogeny.JPG - biguttulate
The mature living spores sharply differ between the two.
So the present collection cannot be the same as what I call M. chateri.
I do not know about the types, perhaps someone knows. I. Fungorum has M. chateri and M. cornubiensis as two different species. Perhaps the synonymy link is simply lacking?

Hello all,
the present collection seems to be two species actually: one with brown hairs (Melastiza cf. cornubiensis) on macro photo, other (Aleuria aurantia?) on micros. I don't see any brown(ish) hairs on the excipulum photo, also biguttulate spores and rather long+thick spore appendages suggest Aleuria aurantia. Checking the ascus base would help. From what I've seen, A. aurantia has simple ascus base, while A. cestrica, A. congrex, Melastiza cornubiensis, M. carbonicola, M. flavorubens, M. contorta have all 2 septa (croziers).
The synonymy of Peziza cornubiensis, P. chateri and Humaria miniata was stated by Moravec (1994, type studies of all three), as far as I know.

Indeed, I have in my A. aurantia folder a photo by Raul Tena (Oct. 2011) showing simple septa.
The same is shown in Berthet 1964 Fig. 19.

o.k., this covers all, simple septa and croziers. Joseba, how many apothecia of this sample did you study up to now? Is this variation within a single apothecium, or do the ascus bases come from different apos?

Lactophenol is a high-concentrated solution, maybe 50%. It kills immediately. Over 30 years ago I made a video with Guy and Achim for the IMC4 where we added lactophenol to multiguttulate spores, and you can see in this video how the oil drops fuse to one big drop at the blink of an eye.
