Hello,Found by a friend: february 2018.
On: dead branch of Sambucus nigra.
Asci: 8-spored.
Spore size: 5.4-6.6-7.2 x 1.4 µm (immature spores???)
Eutypa lata, Eutypa maura?
Kind regards,
Riet
likely E. maura but this species is highly specific for Acer pseudoplatanus.
Just split the branch longitudinally across the stroma and if you see deeply immersed perithecia under a thick black superficial layer and surrounded by black extensions downwards like on the attached photo, you can safely recognize this fungus.
Host identification is most often critical to identify Diatrypaceae, otherwise it is often a headache.
Good luck,
Jacques
Thank you very much for your help and advice.
I will give it a try!
Greetings, Riet
I can see "deeply immersed perithecia under a thick black superficial layer" ("and surrounded by black extensions downwards").
Are the black extensions on the photo's also correct for Eutypa maura?
The third photo I just received from the owner of the material.

Jacques
Merci beaucoup!
