Ombrophila on fagus cupules
Marian Jagers, 13-10-2016 14:39
Marian JagersCould somebody help me with this species growing gregariously on Fagus cupules in moist walls of a cartrack in a Fagus forest.

Apothecia consist of greyishpink (more greyish the day after collected), gelatinous discs, with a short stalk. Size: up to 4 mm diameter.

Microscopic data:
Spores: hyaline, smooth, 10,5-13,5x 4-5 mµ, with one large guttule and more smaller.
Asci: 8-spored, with hooks, all asci blue reaction with Lugol, 75-85x7-8 mµ.
Paraphyses: filiforme.
Exipulum: Textura prismatica.
Granulation/cristals local on hyphae of the gel and on the excipulumcels.

I used the key for Ombrophila species (Baral, 1988). Could this be Ombrophila spec. 6?

Yes, I also think it is O. fagiseda, an unpublished name. Your last photo needs to be turned for 18ß°? I assume a gel layer outside the ectal excipulum is sparse,

Hi Otto,

Thank you also for your response. May I ask why this species is not published?

Re : Ombrophila on fagus cupules
Haha. Yes you may. I have about 500 new species to publish, so this is the reason.
By the way, the literature contains a huge amount of (very) badly described taxa, nobody knows what they are, so without type study it is impossible to decide whether a species that we know is the same. So this is another heavy reason.

Re : Ombrophila on fagus cupules
Thank you. I understand there is much work to be done.
I will send Stip Helleman some cupules. He will describe and sequence this Ombrophila.

Re : Ombrophila on fagus cupules
It will be very good when Stip gets a sequence of this species as none exist so far. I actually sent different Ombrophilas, among them fagiseda, to someone for sequencing over a year ago but none of them appear so far to have been processed.

I actually appreciate it very much when someone takes up this matter but I would be happy to be author of the paper anyhow, since my contributions will not be  sparse :-)

Hoi Zotto,
a bit of miscommunication I think, I will describe this collection only and hopefully pcr will be succesfull so it can be used in future studies.
