Peziza? growing on a cotton towel
Simon Kennedy, 08-06-2016 21:32
Has anyone got a suggestion for the identity of an ascomycete, buff coloured, astipitate- shortly stipitate, 1--15mm diameter, cupulate.
Spores are smooth, 13x7 ellipsoid.
The asci are narrowly cylindrical and 160microns long.  T
he ascus apex blues in Meltzer's, there is no apical appartus.
The paraphyses do not appear to taper, they do have septa.
Is the substrate suggestive, in any way?
Thanks for any help.

Re : Peziza? growing on a cotton towel

I would compare Peziza cerea (s.l.). It is known to grow in similar habitats. I, for instance, found it on a car mat in an old car, in the sink of a laundry, and in cracks of a shower cubicle. The synonym "Peziza muralis" also refers to man-made habitats.
