Unknow Pezizacae??
Eike Heinemann, 11-10-2013 10:45

Hello other
Pezizaceae I found this yesterday with a Mykologiefreund in a marl pit. She grew up in a creek on the marl. Could this be mixed with most parts of dead aquatic plants.
Spores 16,4x10,2 ?. The Ascusspitzen turn blue in Melzer. Is that automatically a Peziza? The paraphyses are capitate and bent. also they are brown.?

Sry for my bad english,
Eike

Peut-être Adelphella (Psilopezia) babingtonii...
mais les spores sont trop petites.

Re : Unknow Pezizacae??
No, I do not think that is the Paychella babingtonii. This species I know well. plus she looks totally different from macroscopic?

Thanks anyway..

Eike

I am also watching this nice fungus. Pachyella is a good idea though P. violaceonigra has distinclty larger spores (see Breitenbach & Kränzlin).

The genus Pachyella is easily recognized when making a radial section of the marginal region: parallel perpendicular hyphae with ample gel between form the gelatinous margin.

Re : Unknow Pezizacae??

Hi!

In my opinion it is a Peziza of the P. violacea group, typically blueing rather restrictedly at the ascus apex. The bent paraphyses with brownish content and the spores with two guttules when alive also match. Within this group it reminds me of Peziza exogelatinosa, which occurs on rich clayey bare ground and has a similar appearance.

The spores of your collection are too short (16.3-18.8 x 8.8-10 µm in the original description of P. exogelatinosa) for it and seem to be smooth, but freely discharged spores must be checked for this. Otherwise it might be some other species of this group.

Cheers,

Ibai.

Re : Unknow Pezizacae??
I agree with Ibai concerning the genus.

Eike, did you check the spore ornamentation? It will be interesting to verify if the spores are finely verrucose (seen in Cotton blue with immersion objective). In this case, your collection could be the same that Marcel Vega and I collected in August. But I have no name to propose for this Peziza species ;)
