On m'a confié la détermination d'un Elaphomyces récolté ces jours sous Quercus pubescens, mesurant 18-30 mm de diamètre. J'hésite fortement entre deux taxons : E. cyanosporus et E. persoonii.
Quels sont les critères objectifs pour séparer ces deux espèces ?

Elaphomyces persoonii is a bigger and rare species with a conspicuous greenish yellow mycelial involucre and  it has an unpleasant aliaceous odour.
Elaphomyces cyanosporus lacks this involucre (or it's blueish and inconspicuous) and their smell is pleasant, like Tuber melanosporum.
I think your fungus is E. cyanosporus

So the macro characters of this collection correspond to E. cyanosporus.

Moreover E. persoonii has great black pyramidal scales on the peridium, whereas them of E. cyanosporus are small and rather smooth or aplanate.

Je pense aussi à E. cyanosporus, et j'en profite pour joindre le pdf d'un article paru récemment dans le Bulletin FAMCAL sur les Elaphomyces, avec une clé à tester...
