I have what I believe to be a Colopila species on account of the prominent, septate paraphyses.


Fbs: c0.5mm. Stipitate, hairy, whitish, strongly strongly discolouring dark red-brown.


Paraphyses: lanceolate, broad, septate.


Asci: 45-55x5-6.


Spores: 9-13x2-3


Hairs: septate, congealed with yellow-brown matter.


On small fallen twigs of Myrica gale.

Yes, it is Colipila, and from spore size C. masduguana.

I would very much like to add the colection data.

Will look up the collection details shortly. Is the discoloration typical of this taxon? I came across the genus quite by chance when browsing the internet.

I am not sure. Such change to red-brown is generally observed in Lachnum species with guttulate paraphyses and hairs (vacuolar guttules, VBs), but it may also occur in other genera where no such VBs occur, due to some other chemistry.
