Hi All,
I found this yellow Discomycete on dung, presumably dog, buried in sand amongst dunes. Despite it being relatively large and conspicuous I have strugled for an ID.
Apothecia are yellow-orange, disc shaped, up to 8mm. The margin is slightly raised and crenulate under low power. Ascospores are smooth, ellipsoid, without guttules, 17.5-22x10-13. Asci are 168-235x15-18 and without iodine reactions (Melzers). Paraphyses are slightly swollen to 6-9, some capped by amorphous matter. Excipulum is mostly a textura globosa with some cells up to 50. Some hair-like chains of cells towards the margin c100 long.
I'd be grateful for some ideas.
Kind regards,
Charles. Â
Many thanks for this although I'm unsure. I ruled out Cheilymenia as I couldn't find any distinct hairs. Also (if E & E are right) paraphyses should only be swollen to 3-4.
Kind regards,
Charles.

Hi Peter,
I've had another look for hairs and failed to find them, however, it seems that the hairs are easy to overlook in this species. Also there's a C. theleboloides f. glabra listed on FRDBI suggesting that the hairs can be hard to find! As you suggested, C. theleboloides does seem the closest fit.
Kind regards,
Â
Charles.
