Lasionectria?
Hans-Otto Baral, 29-07-2009 15:48
Hans-Otto BaralHere is a very sparse find of a minute ?Lasionectria. It grew in Tübingen in my garden, on a dead old, 18 mm thick, decorticated branch of Malus hanging in 3,5 m above ground, soc. Orbilia vinosa and Parmelia.

I did not arrive with Amy's keys to a proper genus. I admit I did not test KOH but assume it is a Bionectriacee.

Perith. pale orange-rose, ca. 150 µm diam, dry collapsing. Sp. *10-12 x 3.3-3.5 µm, narrowly ellipsoid, 1-septate, upper cell slightly larger?, 1 medium-sized oildrop in each half near septum, smooth.

thanks
Zotto

Re:Lasionectria?
I did not see any oil drops in the peridial cells, nor some differentiation in more than one layer .

Re:Lasionectria?
Hairs are often distinctly thick-walled, and somewhat flexuous.

Re:Lasionectria?
The spores are badly visible here, and the material showed only a few mature asci and spores.

Re:Lasionectria?
Hi, Zotto,
your fungus is it fungicolous? or on a byssoid stroma? could you make a section of acomatal wall? could you give the thickness of it?
Thank you

Re:Lasionectria?
Hi Christian

the section you see on my second image. The wall is laterally about 25 µm thick. The substrate could partly be an old lichen thallus but this is very difficult to see because it is strongly decayed, see image.

There are 3 perithecia left.

Re:Lasionectria?
Ok Zotto,
I think it is maybe a Nectriopsis but with so not enough material it is going to be difficult to find a name.
Cheers,
Christian

Re:Lasionectria?
Have today looked at another ascoma, I kept the branch moist overnight. So now I have seen abundant mature spores. Also the hairs are frequently apically branched, with truncate ends.

Perith. pale orange-rose, ca. 150-200 µm diam (without hairs), dry collapsing. Asci 8-sp., IKI-. Sp. submature *10-12 x 3.3-3.5 µm, mature *11-14 x 3.7-3.9(-4.5) µm, KOH 11-14 x 3.3-3.6 µm, narrowly ellipsoid, 1-septate, 1 medium-sized oil-drop in each half near septum, distinctly densely warted (punctate), in KOH looking almost smooth (warts lower?). Hairs 35-48 x 3.5-4.5 µm, wall 1-1.5 µm thick, IKI-. The peridial wall is laterally about 25 µm thick, KOH-
