Here’s an interesting unidentified ascomycete I found near Occidental, California, during my trip to SOMA Camp last January. About 1 mm tall, growing under a large log, on dung—possibly slug dung.

Spores: 12.03–15 × 7.67–9.03 µm.
Asci: 16-spored, IKI–
Does anyone have any ideas what species or genus it is? Thanks!

This type of hairs can be found in the genus Cheilymenia, but the presence of encrusted hairs would be very unusual for this genus (and of course the presence of a stipe). We cannot totally exclude the genera Lasiobolidium and Trichophaeopsis, but with a low probability. A new species is highly possible.
