Scutellinia subhirtella?
Andreas Loosli, 09-08-2024 08:22
Hello Everybody,
my Name is Andy
i am new here in this forum. I am a passionate fungi finder and I map for Switzerland. I have been microscoping for about 2 years and have been identifying fungi for several years. I guess with this Forum i can bring me to higher level of knowledge.
I find often also a lot of Asco's and i really like to get the full name of the species.

This one i found in the area of calcareous soil but it was on an old rotten piece of wood between moss.

It has very long hair >900µm
Spore measure: 17.19-18.36-19.52x10.85-12.58-13.45µm / Spore measured 20pcs in H2O
Quotient: 1.459µm
Elipsiod with warts -> Ornament

I took some Key's as from Benat Jeannerot -> European key to the genus Scutellinia
According them my favourit would be Scutellinia subhirtella.

But i am not 100% sure, I would appreciate it if you could take a look at it.
Many Thanks Best regards Andy

Re : Scutellinia subhirtella?
Salü Andy,

orange apos with long hairs on rotten wood normally is Sc. crinita (frequently) or Sc. scutellata.

Please compare the ornament of the mature spores in cottonblue of crinita (vs. scutellata) vs. subhirtella – in the attachment "Figures" of the Jeannerot-Key you see samples of the spores/ornaments.

Greetings – Rika

Andy
S subhirtella has isolated warts on the spores and yours looks to have some warts that are more interconnected. I would look as S olivascens (var minutospora).

Re : Scutellinia subhirtella?
Hallo Rika
I write further in english however we could write in our owen language ;-). But I think it's easier for all other which are follow this post.

After your hints, i checked again my spores/ornaments. -> clear is Sc. subhirtella its out of range.
Your ideas of crinita (vs. scutellata) it's very good idea, to be honsenst I cannot figuer out the difference of this both taxon. I guess for comparing these two species i must investigate more time to get the full picture of the ornament.
Unfortunately the apos already now in a bad shape, i cannot make further analyses....
Anyhow, the next challange of Scutellinia will be follow of sure.
Have nice day, and best regards Andy

Re : Scutellinia subhirtella?
Thanks Mal
yes S subhirtella is out of reach -> I see the differences now.
As I write to Rika, unfortunately I can't make better patterns of the ornament, I understand that this would be necessary.

Your hint to S olivascens (var minutospora) I belive you have high range of knowledge, do you think Sc. crinita or Sc. scutellata could be further an option?
I will make some compare tabel of these three species, but from var. minutospora i miss a bit some information in the literatur. is there any source in the web available? Thanks A lot. Best regards Andy
