Crocicreas cyathoideum?
Anna Klos, 18-05-2024 10:47
Goodmorning,

We found this tiny ascomycete (max. 1mm) on a stem (of grass?).
Is this Crocicreas cyathoideum?
I'm not sure because of the length of the spores, they easily reach to 14 mu.

With kind regards,

Anna

Re : Crocicreas cyathoideum?
Oh, this looks interesting. A few days before we had it here: Cyathicula paludosa.

The row of large guttules in the spores are typical. Crocicreas is from its type something else, so Cyathicula is used for C. cyathoideum etc.

I fear you have not observed whether the asci arise from croziers or not, because there exist two variants in C. paludosa.

Re : Crocicreas cyathoideum? => no Cyathicula paludosa
Thank you Hans-Otto and Riet!

I know that names have changed, however in our (Dutch) database (the Verspreidingsaltas), they still use the old names. They will be changed, when I don't know.

I'm terrrible with croziers, however I tried to make some pictures for you, Otto.
Not easy, you did say the species is tough.
Don't know if this are croziers, hopefully you can tell me.

With kind regards,

Anna

Re : Crocicreas cyathoideum?
Yes, it is without croziers, obviously (from your 2nd pic).

Since I will soon study the type and want to clarify the ascus base there, I would be happy if you could send me collection data, best with WGS84 coordinates.

Not sure but monocot stems usually look a bit different from dicots. The fragment has no nodium?

The coordinates are : 52° 6? NB, 5° 11? OL
dd: 17-05-2024

I did get the specimen from somebody else, she could not tell me where it was on.
