Mollisia on rosa?
Mirek Gryc, 05-07-2022 15:37
Hi
Little mushroom and a big problem?
I have no idea for this mollisia!
She grew on the dead shoots of wild rose.
Most of the features are compatible with Mollisia rosae:
Croziers (-)
Reaction to KOH - very yellow.

The spores do not suit me at all, more like Mollisia prunicola?

(9.3) 9.7 - 12.6 (13.2) × (2.3) 2.5 - 2.7 (2.8) µm
Q = (3.4) 3.6 - 4.89 (4.9) ; N = 20
Me = 10.9 × 2.6 µm ; Qe = 4.3

Do you have any ideas?
Regards
Mirek

Re : Mollisia on rosa?
Welcome back
Since there is no proposal, maybe I will ask otherwise:
Has any of you found Mollisia prunicola on a different substrate like Prunus spinosa?
The Mollisia prunicola option seems to me quite real, the difference is only about the lack of croziers?

Re : Mollisia on rosa?
I know also a few finds on Rubus fruticosus and R. idaeus. , but they are uncertain.

M. rosae is without croziers, but spores much above 9 µm are unknown to me. Your find is very special, never seen that.

Re : Mollisia on rosa?
Hi Zotto
I have read your publication on M. prunicola. I do not have pdf so the translation took me some time but if I understood correctly, the collections of M. prunicola with Rubus did not completely correspond to this species.
I was afraid that I could not notice croziers, so I looked back the photos of my collections M. prunicola from Prunus. In these collections, croziers was clearly visible (see the attached photo).
The remaining features very similar to M. prunicola.
Thank you for your comments.
I will mark it as: Mollisia cf. prunicola (croziers -).

Re : Mollisia on rosa?
Which publication do you mean?
Mirek Gryc, 07-07-2022 11:25
Re : Mollisia on rosa?
When you use the translator, do such misunderstandings come out?
I mentioned the publication of A. Gminder: Studien in der Gattung Mollisia s.l. I.
I meant that you are one of the several authors of the taxon, so in total I consider this publication to be common.

Re : Mollisia on rosa?
Ah, Gminder 1996. I send it by mail. I am only coauthor of the combination, not more.

The spores of prunicola in Gminder look very much like yours.

But the substrate cannot be Prunus. For a Rosa I wondered about the hairy-spiny twig, but I am sure you are right, such roses exist.

Re : Mollisia on rosa?
Mentioning the Prunus, I meant my collection:
https://grzyby-pk.pl/gat_m/gat_mollisia_prunicola.php

It was my first collection but not the last one. Since then, I have already studied several others, also from Prunus. Similar features but in each case croziers was present.

In this case, it was probably Rosa canina.
Thank you again and best regards

Re : Mollisia on rosa?
Dear Mirek,

I also have no idea for this species, which looks like M. rosae with the spores of M. prunicola. As the asci are IKI+, a Helicogonium parasitation is rueld out.
I would be very interested in an ITS sequence of this collection to compare with me sequences of rosae and prunicola!

all the best,
Andreas

Re : Mollisia on rosa?
Hi Andreas
The collection was collected at the end of May this year (later I will provide more detailed data) so it is not very fresh anymore, I don't know if it doesn't bother? Dried at room temperature!
I collected quite a lot of material so I will gladly share with you, all you have to do is give me your address.

Mirek
