striking blue-green cushion-shaped Helotiales
Andreas Gminder, 05-06-2022 01:26
Andreas GminderHello,

we found today in a montain spruce forest in the total reserve of National Park Harz Mountains a striking turquoise little ascomycete, which I have no idea of the species. But as the characters are so striking, I'm sure someone will know this one.

Spores appr. 7-8 x 3-4 µm, oil 0-0,5.
Ascus with croziers, IKI dirty red (in Lugol as well as in Barals)
The bluegreen pigment is changing to a very bright lemon-yellow when KOH is added.

growing on a piece of a Picea abies stem lying on the ground, mountain spruce forest (all dead by bark beetle outbreak), 1000 m a.s.l.

Any hints welcome :-)

thank you and best regards,
Andreas and Sylvie

Hello,

such a characteristic species and nobody has an idea? At least I'm not the only one then .... :-)

all the best,
Andreas

Re : striking blue-green cushion-shaped Helotiales
Hello everybody,

one last try to get an idea for this species ....

The KOH reaction changing the bright blue-green colour into an intense yellow reaction - has anyone an example of any other Heoltiales with such a reaction?
The excipulum strucutre reminds me at some Hymenoscyphus s.l. or even a Dermateacea, but the outer cells are not really a textura globulosa but a textura prismatica.
And also the red IKI-reaction is may be a hint to the possible relationship of this species, as there are not so many red-reaction species ....

thank you and all the best,
Andreas

Hola Andreas.
No soy ni mucho menos un experto con estas, pero a primer golpe de vista me parece una Chlorociboria inmadura, sería muy interesante el poder observar algunos ascos con esporas.
Saludos.

Re : striking blue-green cushion-shaped Helotiales
Hallo Andreas

I think some photos of asci, spores and paraphyses would be helpful. Shape of hemiamyloid apical ring, shape of spores, shape and contents of paraphyses. I see refractive globose guttules in the hymenium which seem to be in the paraphyses, but I am not sure what they are. In KOH they seem to have disappeared. The KOH-reaction sounds ionomidotic although that reaction is not coupled with a colour change. Both colour change and extrusion in the medium I cannot remember in any discomycete. In my mind I don't know any Chlorociboriaceae in which a pigment extrudes.
