Peziza-like ascomycete on burnt ground
Sergey Markov, 02-01-2021 15:20
This peziza-like ascomycete was found 14.06.2020 in RU, Moscow region on burt ground, some apothecies directly on charcoal.

Excipulum ectal consist of textura angularis. Upper layer of excipulim (at margin with subhymenium) consist of txtura intricata. Paraphyses hyaline. Asci MLZ+ (pre-treated with KOH 3%) - showing prominent blue ring. Ascospores (16.39) 17.06 - 18.10 (18.32) × (8.46) 9.10 - 9.88 (10.04) µm; Q = (1.76) 1.78 - 1.93 (1.98) ; N = 28; Me = 17.53 × 9.41 µm ; Qe = 1.87. Ascospores ornamented with apicular gel-like "caps" and very rare single warts. I haven't found croziers, but it is not fact, that this fungus is w/o croizers.

I have no idea because strange spore ornamentation for peziza s.l. (and not suitable spore sizes for P.merdae / P.acroornata) Please help.

Look at Peziza acroornata.

Re : Peziza-like ascomycete on burnt ground
Thank Yoy, Nicolas.

I checked P.acroornata, but spore length for this species reported as >19 um (i.e. 19–22 (24,5) -  Premières récoltes françaises de Peziza acroornata (Ascomycota, Pezizales) - doi: 10.25664/art-0009;  19–22,6 - Peri? B. (2011): Peziza acroornata (Ascomycota, Pezizales) - quatrième récolte européenne, première du Monténégro. – Czech Mycology 63(1): 55–64.

But i didn't find any spore > 18.3 um

Also i checked P.merdae. Also no intersection with my spore measurement: 14,8-16,6 x 6,6-8,3?m (Häffner). And P.merdae should have fine punctate ornamentation on entire spore surface.

Re : Peziza-like ascomycete on burnt ground
I have a collection of P. acroornata with ascospores measuring 17-19 (20) × 9-10 (11) µm, Me 18.5 × 9.6 µ, Qm 1.9, so whyt not. The substrate is unusual, so maybe something else.
I have no other name to propose.

Re : Peziza-like ascomycete on burnt ground
Thank You again for new information about spore measurements.

I will postpone this collection for future research and possibly sequencing...
