Allophylaria macrospora?
Juuso Äikäs, 27-12-2020 20:26
These were growing on a fallen stem of Chamaenerion angustifolium. They seem to have decent resistance to frost, since they must've frozen and melted several times. I kept the sample in the fridge for over a week and accidentally froze it again. And yet some paraphyses still had VBs.

Asci 8-spored, IKI+(bb), without croziers. The spores measure 24.7 - 31.3 × 5.5 - 6.7 microns and are full of small oil drops.

Allophylaria macrospora seems to fit nicely, but since the species seems to be missing from our species list, I wanted to check if there are other possibilities.

Re : Allophylaria macrospora?
A, macrospora I only know from wood. Stop, I have one on Chamaenerion angustifolium (HB 7056) for which I did not see differences to samples on wood. Interesting!

Re : Allophylaria macrospora?
Alright, thanks! I guess I'll use this name when I send it to the museum.

Re : Allophylaria macrospora?
I want to make a little update.

Today I found A. macrospora on bark of dead Salix caprea. The distance is only 350 m to this place. I've looked at the sample only in water so far, but it looks identical and I'm quite sure it is this species.

Coincidentally I've found the basidiomycete Lachnella alboviolascens earlier in both places. The substrate was also a herbacious stem in the first place and Salix caprea in the second.

Anyways, happy New Year!

Re : Allophylaria macrospora?
I've had this on C. angustifolium as well: http://www.ascofrance.com/search_recolte/3069 and I know of around a dozen other UK records on this substrate (around half the UK total for A. macrospora).

Happy New Year

Chris

Re : Allophylaria macrospora?
This restriction sounds strange, it would be interesting to compare DNA. I know of only one inofficial ITS sequence from wood, and none from herbs.
