Crocicreas culmicola?
Maria Plekkenpol, 20-06-2019 14:30
Hello, I am new here and also a beginner. So I know very very little, but am eager to learn. Last Sunday I was near a pool on loam soil. On a little piece of leaf I saw these, I will decribe what I could find (some things I couldn't find due to lack of experience). Ectal ? excipulum textura oblita/porrecta, asci 120-130 µm x 11-13 µm. Paraphyses a bit longer, filled with VB's (they disappeared rapidly with KOH), curvy and branched (not all), about 2 µm broad. Spores 3 times septated (already in the asci), 25-32 µm x 3,5-4,5 µm. Could this be Crocicreas culmicola and is that the current name? And feel free please to tell me if I didn't do something or did it wrong. Thank you!

Re : Crocicreas culmicola?

Hi Maria, welcome to Ascofrance !

The characters you present do match this species , including the Hymenoscyphus type reaction in IKI, which leads to the preferred combination in Cyathicula .

Di you remember the kind of leaf as substrate ? I am used to collect it rather on poaceae.

Amitiés

Michel

Hi Michel, thank you!! Yes, it was on a piece of leaf from Cytisus. There are a few shrubs there, but the rest around the pool is all kinds of grasses and other plants. Can you please explain what you mean with the Hymenoscyphus type reaction?

Re : Crocicreas culmicola?

In  Cyathicula (including culmicola) the reaction in IKI is similar to those in Hymenoscyphus : two parallel lines . In Crocicreas the reaction is enlarged at the top as in Calycina

Here are the three main types designed by H. O. Baral (Zotto) and you will see more on his site   https://in-vivo-veritas.de/
