Sclerotinia sclerotiorum?
Gernot Friebes,

I'm wondering if this is S. sclerotiorum, found at 2.300 m alt. among Cirsium spinosissimum. Sometimes the apothecia grew directly on strongly decayed stems of the Cirsium, but in some cases such a connection was not readily apparent. The ascospores are 2-nucleate, measure about 12–15.5 x 6–7 µm, the excipulum is weakly amyloid.Â
Best wishes,
Gernot

Re : Sclerotinia sclerotiorum?
The VBs in the paraphyses exclude a Sclerotinia. I suggest a Botryotinia (now Botrytis). Did you study the medulla of the sclerotium for host tissue?
How large are the apos?
But I am sure what it is: Sclerotinia cirsii-spinosissimi. This is actually a Botryotinia according to the sequence.

Re : Sclerotinia sclerotiorum?
Right, I forgot about the VBs... The authors of S. cirsii-spinosissimi write that the medullary excipulum is not blueing in IKI; I did observe a blueish reaction, however (see second plate, photo on the bottom right). Maybe this feature can vary?
Thank you and best wishes,
Gernot

Re : Sclerotinia sclerotiorum?
PS: I did not study the sclerotium. The apothecia were relatively large and fleshy and thus hard to overlook, up to about 8 mm in diameter.

Re : Sclerotinia sclerotiorum?
I can imagine variation in the blueing of the medulla, but I am not sure.
