If you still have the sample just check if the spore has a thick wall. If this is the case then it is likely to be P oedipus.

Re : Pilobolus kleinii
Hola Joseba,

like Malcolm says, this should be Pilobolus oedipus with double-walled spores.

Horsedung is the typical substrate for it.

Other +/- round-spored species of Pilobolus have much smaller spores (5-7(8,5 µm) -> P. minutus), spores with different size upto 18,5 µm (-> P. lentiger = sphaerosporus) or have much larger sporangiophores (-> P. longipes).

Best wishes, Norbert

Hola Joseba

Of course we are not dealing with Ascomycota here. I can send you, by Dropbox, the monograph on the Mucorales by Zycha et al. (1969) which of course contains Pilobolus and related genera.

Estarías interesado?

Hi Chris,

I'm also interested at the monograph on the Mucorales by Zycha et al.

Please, can you send the dropbox-link to me, too?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Chris

This must be one of the few papers on Pilobolus I haven' got so I would also be interested.

Hi Mal

I'll include an English translation of the keys as well - the original is in German, though once you know a few of the key words pretty straightforward.
