this black discomycete looks like a Rhizodiscina to me but the asci are completely IKI–. What else could it be? The ascospores measure about 9–12 x 4–4.3 µm. I found it on a piece of deciduous wood on the ground (probably Fagus).
Best wishes,
Gernot

Re : Rhizodiscina-like (IKI–)
Hi Gernot,
maybe your IKI is not strong enough anymore. In my collections I have an amyloid (red-brown) reaction within the asci, but no blue reaction at the apex.
best regards
Martin

Re : Rhizodiscina-like (IKI–)
I nevertheless think it is R. lignyota. The reaction is never strong, maybe KOH-pretreatment helps?

Re : Rhizodiscina-like (IKI–)
Thanks to both of you, I guess the reaction can vary a lot then. I tested it with two different bottles of IKI so I don't think that it is due to the solution being too old.
Best wishes,
Gernot
